The PLX51-PBM gateway provides connectivity to EtherNet/IP™, Modbus TCP/IP®, or Modbus® Serial networks for PROFIBUS DP networks by operating as either a Master or Slave device on the PROFIBUS DP network.
For easy integration to a Rockwell Automation Controller, the gateway and configuration software create dynamic AOI’s based on the user configuration to add logical tag names to the PLC project file. Thus, reducing the overall programming time for EtherNet/IP applications.
For configuration of Modbus TCP/IP or Modbus Serial Networks, the module will automatically map PROFIBUS DP data points to registers on a Modbus network.
With advanced tools such as PROFIBUS device discovery and a built-in PROFIBUS DP packet capture utility, PROFIBUS DP network commissioning time can be greatly reduced.
Dual Ethernet ports of the module can support either DLR (Device Level Ring) topology, or can be used as an embedded switch for flexible installation options.
With support for up to 1536 bytes of Input and Output data, and up to 4 EtherNet/IP connections to the processor, this module provides performance and data throughput back to the processor for even the most demanding of PROFIBUS applications.
When used as a PROFIBUS DP slave, the module can operate as 1 to 10 slaves, providing up to 1536 bytes of Input and Output Cyclic I/O data between EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, or Modbus Serial devices and a PROFIBUS DP master.

The Time Sync module provides Precision Time Protocol (PTP - Grand Master) and NTP Time services. This enables precision time synchronization for Logix Controllers and HMI systems. It can also provide GPS position and velocity data. The module uses an on-board GPS receiver to provide accurate time and position information.
Because the module is stand-alone and connects to various devices over an Ethernet network the module can be placed as close as possible to the antenna position removing the need for costly low-loss coaxial cables that was traditionally needed to connect the GPS antenna to the module. The on-board GPS receiver also provides velocity and odometer reading allowing the user to implement the module in various vehicle and tracking applications. The GPS accuracy information provided allows the user/controller to make calculated decision when looking at the position, velocity, or odometer information.

The module can be configured to be either a Master or Slave allowing the user to not only integrate CANopen devices into a Logix or Modbus system, but to also allow the user to use Logix or Modbus devices in an existing CANopen network (by using the CANopen Router in Slave mode). In a Logix system the module uses Direct-To-Tag technology allowing CANopen devices to exchange data with a Logix controller without the need to write any ladder or application code in Studio 5000.
The module also provides a range of statistics to simplify the diagnostic process as well as a CANopen packet capture for remote diagnosis. A built-in webserver provides detailed diagnostics of system configuration and operation, including the display of CANopen operation and communication statistics, without the need for any additional software.
The Modbus TCP/IP to IEC 61850 gateway enables communication between the Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) on an IEC 61850 network and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) or Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) on a Modbus TCP/IP network.
The configuration utility software provided with the gateway uses IED configuration files to import complex IEC 61850 data structures. The utility creates Variable files and Function Block files for import into Unity Pro projects for Quantum or M340 processors.
IEC 61850 is the international standard that defines the hardware and communication requirements for all devices within substation automation. The standardized naming conventions imposed by the IEC 61850 standard improves interoperability between systems provided by diverse manufactures or created by multiple system integrators.
