PROFIBUS Master for Modicon Modbus TCP/IP
5204SE-MNET-PDPMV1
Product Description
Automating integration for Schneider Electric (SE) Modicon processors and maximizing ease-of-use are the hallmark design criteria behind the new ProLinx SE line of communication gateways. The first SE gateway, the 5204SE-MNET-PDPMV1 Modbus TCP/IP to PROFIBUS DP-V1 Master gateway, easily turns a Modicon M340 or a Quantum Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) into a PROFIBUS DP-V1 Master. The new Application Communication Logic functions built into ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) automatically generate all the Unity Pro data types, variables, and logic required for the M340 or Quantum to perform PROFIBUS DP-V1 cyclic and acyclic communication.
PCB automatically generates customized export files based on the PROFIBUS DP network configuration for the gateway. These files import into Unity Pro version 4 software without modification, eliminating the need to write additional communications message logic.
Automatically-generated Derived Function Block logic also provides advanced PROFIBUS DP-V1 acyclic message pass-through capability. Acyclic messaging allows an M340 or Quantum to request extended slave data and diagnostics, as well as access slave-specific special functions.
Whenever the PROFIBUS DP network configuration changes, new logic files can be automatically created, exported, and imported into an existing project, reducing engineering demands and cutting deployment time. Changes to gateway configuration can be password-protected.
The Modbus TCP/IP (MNET) driver can be used to interface many different protocols into the Schneider Electric Quantum family of processors as well other software solutions supporting the protocol. The MNET driver supports Client connections as well as Server connections.
The PROFIBUS DP Master protocol driver (PDPMV1) supports complete Master specifications according to IEC 61158 on either a Mono-Master or Multi-Master network. The module supports the DPV1 specification.

ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) with new Application Communication Logic functions provides a PC-based software configuration solution for managing gateway configuration files, viewing communication status, monitoring network diagnostics, and password-protecting configuration downloads. The 5204SE-MNET-PDPMV1 User Manual provides step-by-step instructions on how to move data from one network to the other.
Functional Specifications
Internal Database
The ProLinx module contains an internal database that consists of areas for application data, status information, and configuration information.
The internal database is shared between all ports on the module and is used as a conduit to pass information from a device on one network to one or more devices on another network.
Application Data Area
The data area is used to store and retrieve data by the protocol drivers and for data exchange between protocols. The database is used as a source for write commands to remote devices and holds data collected from the remote devices. Commands defined in the configuration file (stored in the configuration data area) control how the data is to be handled in the database.
Status Data Area
This area is used to store error codes, counters, and port status information for each port.
Configuration File
This file contains module configuration information such as port configuration, network information, and command configuration. This configuration file is downloaded to, or uploaded from, the module.
Modbus TCP/IP Protocol Specifications
The Ethernet driver interfaces with a common internal database in the module. This permits the sharing of data across many different protocols and networks.
Modbus TCP/IP Port Specifications
Server
The MNET module supports server functionality using the reserved Modbus TCP/IP service port 502, as well as service port 2000 to support the TCP/IP encapsulated Modbus protocol that is supported by several HMI manufacturers. Services supported in the module permit client applications (i.e., HMI software packages, Quantum processors, etc.) to read from and write to the module's database.
Data in the module's internal database is accessible for read and write operations by any node on the network supporting the MBAP (service port 502) or MNET (service ports 2000/2001) TCP/IP protocols.
There is no configuration of the MNET module required to implement Server functionality other than setting up the network and database parameters in the user configuration file.
