Improving Plant Production with Wireless Condition Monitoring

Mechanical failure of motors, drives and other vital electromechanical equipment are among the most common reasons for production stoppages. Fortunately, recent advancements in vibration monitoring and data analysis have lead to condition monitoring systems that can accurately detect a problem before failure. Wireless technology can be used to network applications that are difficult to wire, including remote locations and moving platforms.

Drinking Water for Millions in Iraq

Iraq Water StoryThe new Nasiriyah Water Treatment Plant in Badaah, Iraq could rival any state-of-the art water treatment facility in the US and is estimated to supply fresh drinking water to approximately three million Iraqis. David Watts, a System Integrator from Texas, spent eight weeks networking the project that saved affected Iraqis from the alternatives: a small and severely overtaxed water plant or using buckets to bail water from the river.

Control Engineering 06 Award Logo
Engineers' Choice: ’C’ Module

The inRAx ‘C’ programmable modules for ControlLogix have been awarded the Control Engineering Engineers' Choice Award for 2006. The serial (MVI56-ADM) and Ethernet (MVI56-ADMNET) Application Development Modules make it possible for users to easily develop and deploy ‘C’ applications over the backplane of the ControlLogix processor, including Bar Code Scanner interface, Legacy ASCII protocol connections, Terminal Port Emulation, Printer Driver (Alarm/Status printer), and Customized protocol implementations.

RadioLinx OPC Server

ProSoft Technology’s new RadioLinx OPC Server (RLX-OPC-SRV) promotes interoperability by allowing the full line of RadioLinx modems and switches to be accessed by Clients utilizing OPC (OpenGL Performance Characterization) technology. Users can now access and monitor vital radio statistics including signal strength, serial number and throughput directly from one or more OPC clients including HMIs (or Human Machine Interfaces) or Microsoft Excel. These clients can run on the same PC as the RadioLinx OPC Server or on a separate PC on the network.

Easy Add On for RSLogix

Implementation of the inRAx Modbus Communication Module for the ControlLogix platform (MVI56-MCM) is now equipped with an add on instruction which condenses 31 rungs of ladder logic contained in 6 ladder files into one importable file directly into RSLogix 5000 Version 16. This feature saves the user valuable time at set-up and nearly eliminates the room for human error.

The instruction file can be downloaded directly from the MVI56-MCM Product Page on our website.

Wireless EtherNet/IP

The ControlLogix Wireless Ethernet/IP Communication Module creates a powerful wireless connection between your PC or Laptop and a remote ControlLogix processor. The bridging functionality allows access to other processors in other racks through different networks, using RSLinx, RSLogix, RSView or RSNetWorx. The module emulates similar 1756-ENBT Ethernet module features when used with PC (RSLinx) to processor communications. The module can be used to wirelessly program the PLC or connect to operator interfaces, the plant network, or other networks (i.e. program and configure devices on other PLC networks wirelessly).
